His remarkable play text provides us with an opportunity to discuss the historiography of the migrant workers' crisis which registers its presence in the Mughal era but became worse in the Colonial era. Through this essay, I would like to trace back the historical background of Bhikhari Thakur's own life and the many scattered dots that triggered Thakur to write this play. The play text gives us a window to glance at the various genres and socio-political aspects that inspired Thakur and reveals Thakur's understanding of the socio-political and socio-cultural activities happening at that time. It also tries to look at the shaping of the play and various other aspects that made Bidesia a prominent or perhaps the only remarkable play in the Bhojpuri belt.
