A facsimile of the famous Columbus Spanish Letter, the first printed account of the New World, which Christopher Columbus wrote to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to inform them of his discovery of the Americas. The letter was soon printed after Columbus's return, this earliest version printed in Spanish in Barcelona in 1493. Only one copy of this version printed in Spanish is known. It was bought by London antiquarian bookseller Bernard Quaritch from a French dealer in 1890 and sold by him in 1892 to the Lenox Library in New York (now part of the New York Public Library). In 1891 Quaritch issued this facsimile of the letter under the supervision of Michael Kerney who was the chief cataloguer at Bernard Quaritch at the time and who was behind many of the firm's distinguished catalogues and productions.
