The beginning of the year is always quite hectic for OYO - as most grants end in December and we usually don’t hear about new grants till March/ April. This year, we started with three grants - 2 signed and 1 to be signed 31st January. While we don’t receive direct funding from USAID, two of the foundations/ Institutions we work with do receive funding from USAID. It makes us sub-sub recipients. And I’m sure you see where I’m heading to: with President Trump’s decision to freeze all USAID projects, overnight those grants came to a standstill… With no warning to find how to pay salaries or overheads, it is putting us in a lot of trouble… We lost 60% of the budget we had for the first quarter… As a result, we go from board meeting to board meeting, trying to make plans… But as you can imagine, it is not easy....
