NELSON FREIRE (77) / BRAZILIAN CLASSICAL PIANIST. STARTED PLAYING PIANO AT 3, FIRST RECITAL AT 4. IN 1957, AT 12, HE WAS ONE OF THE WINNERS OF THE RIO DE JANEIRO INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION ORGANIZED BY THE POLISH PIANIST ALEKSANDER SIENKIEWICZ. NELSON FREIRE WORKED WITH HIS FRIEND MARTHA ARGERICH FOR A LONG TIME. HE LIKED PLAYING AND RECORDING VILLA-LOBOS AND CHOPIN.
